EU funding for high-quality and sustainable tourism in regions
SLOVENIA, October 7 - The call for proposals aims to promote the development of tourism products and strengthen the business environment in destinations, thereby further accelerating tourism development and improving residents’ quality of life. The aim is to establish competent regional destination management organisations, improve coordination, the quality of the tourism offer and the visibility of destinations, as well as increase added value for the local community and the tourism sector as a whole.
Residents, local providers, and other stakeholders will benefit, as services and infrastructure accessible to the wider public will also improve. As a result, an increase in the number of visitors, overnight stays, and economic benefits for the local environment is expected.
Minister Dr Monika Kirbiš Rojs underlined: “Tourism is an important driver of development in many Slovenian regions. That is why EU funding supports destinations in developing high-quality and sustainable tourism products based on local identity, cultural heritage and natural assets. In this way, we are strengthening development opportunities for local communities and improving the quality of life of residents.”
The call for proposals is implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The total value of the call is €15,060,000, of which the European Regional Development Fund will contribute €10,281,000.00. The call for proposals will be published on the website of the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport.
