MACAU, September 24 - To deepen high-quality Fujian-Macao economic and trade co-operation, encourage Fujian enterprises to invest in Macao and Hengqin, and fully leverage Macao’s unique advantages—such as its China-Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries Platform and "Internal Connectivity and External Network"—to explore overseas markets through various modes, such as "joining forces on overseas expansion", "collective overseas expansion", and "global expansion with quality brands", the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (hereinafter referred to as "IPIM") of the Macao SAR visited Fujian Province from 15 to 18 September to host the "Macao's Platform Advantages Promotion Seminar" (hereinafter referred to as the "Seminar") in Fuzhou and Quanzhou respectively. The two presentation sessions attracted over 150 entrepreneurs from key sectors, including traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Big Health, high-end manufacturing, modern finance, textiles and footwear, kitchen and bathroom hardware, home furnishings, mineral development, agricultural products and food, legal services, trade and logistics, and cross-border e-commerce.

During their mission to Fujian, the IPIM delegation visited 14 leading Fujian enterprise groups across sectors such as high technology, TCM and Big Health, fisheries, marine engineering services, cold-chain logistics, textiles and apparel, and sporting goods. The delegation introduced recent policy initiatives to the local enterprises, including the Third Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Macao Special Administrative Region (2026-2030) (hereinafter referred to as the "Third Five-Year Plan") promulgated last month, as well as IPIM’s China-PSCs Business Compass services. Many local enterprises expressed a strong interest in overseas investment, hoping to leverage the China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund to expand into Portuguese-speaking market and projects. Additionally, several enterprises expressed interest in opening bank accounts in Macao and PSCs to establish capital settlement channels, so as to support their overseas capital allocation, investment, and trade transactions. During the promotion and enterprise visits in Fujian, over 100 business matching sessions were arranged.

The Fuzhou session of the Presentation was co-hosted by IPIM and the Department of Commerce of Fujian Province, while the Quanzhou session was co-hosted by IPIM, the Department of Commerce of Fujian Province, and the Bureau of Commerce of Quanzhou Municipality. Both sessions received support from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Fujian Province. Representatives from the Service Centre for Economy and Trade between China and Portuguese/Spanish-speaking countries, the Talents Development Committee of the Macao SAR, the China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund, Macao financial service institutions, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (GMTCM Park) were invited to offer perspectives on market matching, overseas expansion services, talent admission policies, project investment and financing, cross-border settlement, development prospects for TCM, and policies of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin. Macao enterprises with successful track records in expanding into PSC markets were invited to share practical experience on-site. The event also featured roundtable exchanges and business matching sessions to drive pragmatic co-operation across various domains.

Leveraging Macao’s Platform to Connect with Quality International Resources including Portuguese and Spanish-Speaking Markets, therefore Expanding Development Space

Speaking at both sessions, IPIM Director Sam Lei noted that the Seminar represents a concrete action to implement the consensus reached during the high-level meeting between Fujian and Macao in August. The initiative aims to deepen the collaboration to "join forces and go global", combining the synergistic advantages of Fujian as the core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road with Macao’s role as a commercial and trade co-operation service platform between China and PSCs. Coupled with the new strategic positioning of "Macao + Hengqin" in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin, it is expected to creates a mutually beneficial and win-win regional co-operation layout. Fujian and Macao maintain close economic and trade ties with fruitful exchange and co-operation results in multiple sectors.

Currently distributed across Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia, Portuguese-speaking countries are accelerating infrastructure investment, energy transition, industrial upgrading, and consumer market development, offering even more business opportunities for Fujian's competitive industries in Fuzhou and Quanzhou.

At the same time, Macao is actively playing its role as a "precise connector", while extending the functions of the China-PSC Platform to Spanish-speaking countries, and actively developing other international markets such as Southeast Asia to help enterprises connect with more high-quality international resources. In November, IPIM, together with the GMTCM Park, will organise Chinese mainland and Macao pharmaceutical enterprises to participate in the supporting exhibition activities of the "2026 Traditional Medicine International Development Forum (Brazil)". The forum serves as a key official partner event of the "4th Brazilian Congress of Pharmaceutical Sciences" organised by the Federal Pharmacy Council of Brazil. Pharmaceutical enterprises in Fujian with an interest in overseas expansion are warmly invited to participate.

The Macao SAR Government is steadily advancing appropriately diversified economic development. Closely aligned with the deployments under the "Third Five-Year Plan" and focusing on the "1+4" industrial layout, the SAR Government is committed to creating a more competitive business environment and building a sound ecosystem for industrial development. By capitalising on Macao's unique market connectivity advantages with Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking regions, Macao actively integrates into and serves the overall national development, providing mainland enterprises with more comprehensive policy support and service platforms to go global.
