Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Alleges Drone Attack on Safety Monitoring Lab

(MENAFN) Officials overseeing the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant claim that a drone attack targeted an external radiation monitoring laboratory on Sunday, raising concerns about nuclear safety, according to reports.

In a statement released via social media, the plant’s management accuses Ukrainian forces of carrying out the strike, warning that such actions could pose risks to radiation security at the site.

"The armed forces of Ukraine are creating a threat to the radiation safety of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Today, during the day, they carried out a drone attack on the external radiation monitoring laboratory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP," the station's press service said in a statement on Russian social media platform Max.

Despite the incident, plant representatives confirm that no casualties are reported and that operations continue without disruption. They also indicate that inspections have not identified any serious damage to critical systems.

"The Zaporizhzhia NPP continues to function in a safe mode. The situation is under control," the statement read.

Management says that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency have been notified of the development, as stated by reports.

The targeted laboratory plays a key role in tracking radiation levels in the surrounding area, monitoring weather conditions, and gathering data used to predict potential emergency responses in the event of radiological incidents, according to the statement.
