Syria, Egypt Launch Joint Business Council to Boost Economic Ties

(MENAFN) Syria has taken a new step toward strengthening economic relations with Egypt by establishing a joint business council aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries, according to reports citing official sources.

As stated by reports, Syria’s Economy and Industry Minister Nidal al-Shaar issued a decision on Sunday to formally create the Syrian-Egyptian council as part of broader efforts to enhance trade and investment coordination.

The announcement included the appointment of several key officials, with Ghassan Karim named as chairperson, alongside Ahmed Ragheb Agha and Muhammad Basil Radwan Samaqia as deputy heads, and Wael Khair al-Nen serving as executive director.

According to general accounts, the formation of the council coincides with the first official visit to Egypt by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, signaling renewed diplomatic and economic engagement between the two sides.

Reports indicate that this initiative is part of a wider series of economic cooperation measures undertaken by Syrian authorities in recent months, including agreements to establish similar joint business councils with several countries such as Spain, Kuwait, and the Netherlands.

As stated by reports, Syrian officials have emphasized the role of the private sector in driving development and strengthening international trade links.

Earlier discussions also included meetings between Syrian leadership and Egyptian business representatives, where the importance of bilateral relations was described as essential rather than optional, highlighting efforts to rebuild and expand economic partnerships in the region.
