“These groups are attempting to impose a new reality within the mosque compound by publicly performing Talmudic rituals and raising Israeli flags, in an effort to alter the status quo and divide the mosque both temporally and spatially,” the governorate said in a statement.
It also condemns the planned incursions as a “blatant act of aggression” linked to broader efforts to change the character of the holy site.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is regarded as the third-holiest site in Islam, while Jews refer to the area as Temple Mount, believing it was the location of ancient temples.
Palestinian officials say such actions are part of long-standing policies aimed at changing the identity of occupied East Jerusalem, including religious and cultural landmarks, as stated by reports.
They also maintain that East Jerusalem is intended to serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state, based on international resolutions that do not recognize Israel’s control over the city since 1967 or its later annexation.
