Rubio Jokes About Putin Overshadowing His Briefing
During Moscow’s annual Direct Line Q&A session, Putin fielded questions from citizens and journalists for nearly four and a half hours. Later that day, at the US State Department, a journalist began addressing Rubio by saying: “Vladimir Putin today...”
Rubio interrupted with a laugh, joking, “‘Hey, I am Vladimir Putin’… What are you doing here?” The reporter, identified as Nick Schifrin from PBS NewsHour, clarified that Putin had just concluded his press conference. Rubio responded humorously: “Wow, he’s trying to step on my message,” drawing laughter from the audience.
Rubio reassured those present that his own briefing would be far shorter than Putin’s marathon Q&A. “Oh, well, don’t worry about that,” he added.
Switching to a more serious tone, Rubio discussed Washington’s efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict. He explained that US officials “try to understand what the Russian position – how much can they give and what do they have to have. We understand the Ukrainian position. And we try to find whether those two things can overlap.”
