EU Commissioner Expects No Shift in EU, Israel Agreement
Ahead of the 5th EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting, Suica characterized the gathering as "historic," highlighting that it will convene all regional ministers, including both the Palestinian and Israeli foreign ministers, who have been invited to attend.
"I find it very good that the Israeli minister will attend this afternoon. Same goes for Palestinian minister ... The dialog is the only way how you can make peace, it's not easy, but at the same time, we will never give up," she expressed.
In addition to the main meeting, EU officials are scheduled to hold individual discussions with Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian and Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Saar in Brussels, although the exact timing for these sessions has yet to be disclosed.
Suica further explained that the review of the association agreement with Israel was completed several weeks ago and found violations of humanitarian law and fundamental rights related to the agreement.
Nevertheless, she noted that at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on July 15, member states presented differing opinions on the matter.
